The Seven Noachide Laws

Halacha is the legalistic part of the Mosaic religion given on Mt. Sinai. It is made up of 613 Commandments that apply only to Jewish people (for example, keeping the Sabbath, not eating pork and many more).

There are Seven Commandments that apply to all people, because they were given by G-d to Noah. They were again given to Moses as part of the Torah and should be accepted as part of the revelation at Sinai. Here are the Seven Noachide Laws.

1. Belief in the Supreme Being and the prohibition against worshipping any other beings.

2. Respect G-d, and do not blaspheme His Name.

3. Respect human life, and do not murder.

4. Respect the family, and do not commit immoral sexual acts such as adultery, homosexuality, bestiality or incest.

5. Respect others' rights, and do not steal.

6. Create a judicial system that will uphold the other six laws and pursue justice.

7. Respect all creatures, and do not eat the flesh of a living animal (meaning the removal and eating of flesh from a live animal).

A Jew has no choice about being Jewish. He is one by birth. The Torah demands it of him. He is a Jew and must perform the 613 commandments, because it is in the Torah of Moses

A gentile has no choice about being a Ben Noach. He is one by birth. The Torah demands it of him. He is a Ben Noach and must perform the 7 Noachide commandments, because it is in the Torah of Moses.

"...without these ethical values and principles the edifice of civilization stands in serious peril of returning to chaos;" --Joint Resolution of the United States Congress, March 20, 1991

[Note from Art, the Noachide webmeister: After a first glance, the Seven Laws might appear to be an easy set of tasks, but there's much more to it than first meets the eye. Yet, some us feel that we need to learn and do more. Thus, our commitment and education to become Noachide Chassidim begins.]
