THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE JEW AND GENTILE

By Rabbi Yossi Markel - based on the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe

The nations (Gentiles) have no raison d'etre of their own other than Yishuv HaOlam (the settlement of the world). That's why when they go against the settlement of the world, they lose their right to exist and are Chayav Missa (liable of a death penalty).

This does not mean that they are here to settle the world for themselves and then go about and have a grand time enjoying it. It means that they are here to be part of the divine goal of providing Hashem with a Dirah Batachtonim―a dwelling place in the lower world, i.e. a home down here. That home is actually provided by the Jews who are here specifically to serve G-d thru the 613 Mitzvos which include: the Beis Hamikdash (Temple) - His house;

Jerusalem ― His city;

the land of Israel ― His country; and

the Jewish people doing the mitzvos―His nation doing

His law - the Torah

These are the basic elements of Kingship - a house (palace), a capital city, a land, a people, and Law.

So the Jew is created simply to serve Hashem―the name Havaya (Tetragramaton)―as it says "I was only created to serve my Master." And the Gentiles, the B'nei Noach (BN) , were only created to help the Jew by providing a proper backdrop thru making the world―the name Elokim―a proper place for Hashem to come into and dwell.

When the BN does this he is not just serving the Jews in a subservient manner which is worthless and insignificant; he is actually serving Hashem and becomes part of Torah and Mitzvos and the Divine plan and can attain lofty levels and be like the Kohen Gadol (High Priest). The Kohen Gadol is the one that goes into the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur. The BN's role in accommodating Hashem in the world can reach a level that is equivalent to that!

Not just that, but the Jews cannot do it without him! Since the physical world and the name Elokim are more the portion of the BN than the Jew, and it is really the BN that has the expertise and talent to deal with them. But this is only when he is an assistant to the Jew in the Jews mission; if he is not, he is totally unnecessary and even counterproductive and has no reason to exist.

This is like an ace war pilot and his trusty mechanic or a race car driver and the mechanic. You can not have one without the other. If not for the mechanic who takes care of the preparation of the plane, the ace will not be able to defeat the Red Baron. The mechanic is just as important as the pilot in the defeat. It can't be done without him! However, if the mechanic wants to just do his own thing, then he is totally unnecessary and you should fire him. He is only there to keep the plane or car going, not to enjoy himself or to show off his skills. But if he does what he is supposed to do, which is to service the pilot through having his gear―the plane―in tip top condition, then he is just as much part of the "Victory" as the pilot himself.

Similarly, the BN, if he just wants to "do his own thing," then he is totally unnecessary and we might as well fire him. But if he services the gear―the world―and gets it in tip top condition so that the pilot―the Jew―can win the war against "the Satan"1, then he is just as much a part of bringing Moshiach (the Victory ).

Since the downstairs world is just like the upstairs world, you will find this type of relationship everywhere. So like by a star or champion (like a rock star or a boxer) and his facilitators, like his manager, stagehands, band lighting crew etc., although at first glance, the star's function is intrinsic while the facilitator is extrinsic and is only necessary when there is a star. Nonetheless, the star by himself can't do anything at all! Without the facilitators there will be no show! However, we must remember that if not for the star, the facilitators are totally unnecessary!

This also explains why there are 70 BN nations and only 1 Jewish nation. There are always more facilitators than stars, champions and aces.

Regarding this symbiotic relationship, the ace must be humble and realize that it is the facilitators' victory just as much as his! So, although the facilitator has to realize that he is just there to help the ace, the ace/star/champion should realize that much of the credit for his victory and glory should really be given to the facilitators. The humble star knows that the facilitators are also stars. This is evident in the movie industry where there are Oscars for special effects, makeup, musical scores etc.

So when the facilitators assist the ace to fulfill his mission to kill the Red Baron, they also become aces. The victory is theirs, too, just as much as it is Snoopy's. However, if they just want to do their own thing and put their efforts into their own projects of their own making; they not only are not part of the victory, they are mutineers revolting in defiance of the King and are guilty of a crime deserving capital punishment.

The relationship between the ace and the mechanic need not and should not be a superior-inferior relationship. On the contrary it should be a relationship of mutual respect and admiration. The mechanic admires the ace for his ace skills, but the ace also admires the mechanic for his skills and realizes that he would be nothing without him. The ace must realize that he is not a mechanic. And the mechanic must realize that he is not a pilot, or there'll be big trouble.

I hope this helps in understanding the relationship between the Jew and Gentile―the B'nei Noach.
